9 graded AU-58, 28 higher at NGC. Heavy melting of the emission, ahead of the mint's precious metal content changes the following year, paved the way for condition rarity status for the 1852-O dime. Neither grading service has seen more than a couple dozen mint-state examples, placing the burden of collectible status on the nicer "about-uncirculated" examples. Iron-grey patina rests in the fields, surrounded by distinctive luster, and the design elements feature a nice, bold strike, surprisingly free from any real signs of wear.
