Description du lot
Richly toned in shades of antique grey with iridescent rose highlights.  This well struck example of the popular “dash date” is a connoisseur’s coin.  Traces of friction are confined to the very highest points.  Here is “58” quality in a “55” wrapper.  The surfaces would befit a choice uncirculated half-dollar.  The dash date obverse first appeared on the R.7+ proof only 1832 O.123.  From the David Rutherford and David Kahn Collections; Rutherford acquired it from your cataloguer in August 1995.  This is its inaugural auction appearance.  Est. $650 to $850.
