Lot 1211 1879. PCGS graded Proof 66. CAC. PQ.Boldly struck on all the devices and now toned with lovely bluish and russet hues on both sides. The fields show outstanding quality with nearly perfectly preserved mirror surfaces, while the devices show the delicate mint frost expected. This was the first "Proof only" year of the Trade dollar, where their circulation strikes were no longer coined after 1878. Curiously the Proof Trade dollars continued being struck until 1885.
