- 1867 Pattern Five-Cent Piece. Judd-570, Pollock-638. Rarity-5. Nickel. Plain Edge. Proof-64 (PCGS). CAC. Secure Holder. Obv: similar to the circulating nickel three-cent pieces of the era but larger and with a star on Liberty's tiara. Rev: large laurel wreath, IN GOD WE TRUST above in tiny letters, 5 / CENTS within, CENTS on a curved line. The Harry W. Bass, Jr. specimen. The frosty devices and reflective fields afford a pleasing though unheralded cameo contrast. Pale champagne-gold toning completes the enchanting picture. Some dark flecks come to light under low magnification. Still, a choice and appealing example of the variety.
