1843-D Liberty Half Eagle. Winter-10-H. Medium D. AU-55 (PCGS). This minimally circulated example displays an uncommon degree of sharp definition for a lightly worn Dahlonega Mint Five. The coin was obviously well produced, and time spent in circulation has also not diminished its appeal for high-grade type or date purposes. Free of individually mentionable abrasions, with even color in a warm medium-gold shade. As the most frequently encountered D-mint Half Eagle from the 1840s, the 1843-D enjoys strong demand among both mintmarked type collectors and Southern gold specialists.
