Roman Powers Collection. 6 graded MS-65, 8 higher at NGC. Fans of the series immediately recognize the scarcity of 1897-O in any grade above "very good", with mint-state examples quite rare, much less a coin that registers as a "Gem" with NGC. The reverse is exceptionally well detailed except near the end of the clutch of arrows, and the obverse is nearly as firmly struck also, barring the minor softness seen at perhaps three stars. In keeping with typical New Orleans Barber quarter strike, either side exudes soft, glowing luster, in this case unmitigated by light platinum toning across the entire surface.
