Description du lot
1840-O Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-2. Narrow Mill, Large O. VF-35 (PCGS). CAC. OGH. An exceptionally smooth coin for the grade, and one that is also richly original in preservation with plenty of bold detail remaining. First of the New Orleans Mint half eagles, the 1840-O is an unheralded rarity as well as historically significant. It is easily as rare as its identically dated counterparts from the Charlotte and Dahlonega mints. Despite a relatively generous mintage of 40,120 coins, survivors are elusive and typically found VF to EF. Even in these grades precious few are as PQ as this CAC-approved Choice VF. Worthy of serious pursuit by half eagle and New Orleans Mint specialists. PCGS# 8200. NGC ID: 25SK. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
