Description du lot
1861-C $5 PCGS AU55 DLRC #: 1677891 // PCGS #: 8289 The 1861-C is a fascinating issue with many questions yet to be answered, thus leading to speculation amongst collectors and experts. The Confederacy took control of the mint before the production was complete at the beginning of the war, leaving 887 pieces still to be struck. The remaining coins were struck after the mint's employees took loyalty oaths to the Confederacy, and are loosely considered CSA coins. Unfortunately it's impossible to be assured of which coins are actually Confederate issues, but it has traditionally been thought that the pieces with a die crack through the top of AMERI were struck under the authority of the Confederacy. * Category : Gold Coinage * Series : $5 Liberty Gold * Type : Liberty head, no motto * Years for Type : 1839-1866 * Strike : Business * Denomination : Half eagle * Mint Location : Charlotte * Designer : Christian Gobrecht * Composition : 90% gold; 10% copper * Weight : 8.359g * Edge Type : Reeded * Mintage : 6,879
