Lot Description

Nicholas Jackson Collection. Overton-101a, "patched 3". O-101a is, by definition, a late die-state of the O-101, created when the "broken 3" obverse was repaired with a small punch between the loops of the "3", but the cataloger contends that this is a very early striking. A tiny die break right of the bottom loop of "3" remains visible, but eventually disappears from the die during later strikings. This happens to be a highly appealing example besides, given gorgeous turquoise-chartreuse and violet-grey toning overall. Significant luster permeates the fields as well, and accents a very respectable overall strike.
