1885 Liberty Quarter Eagle. MS-61 (NGC). A high-profile date from the later Liberty Quarter Eagle series, the 1885 has a paltry business strike mintage of just 800 pieces. Conditionally rare at the BU grade level, this important example is sharply impressed with a bright semi-prooflike finish still readily evident in the fields. A smattering of wispy abrasions does little more than define the grade, as none are sizeable enough to be of singular concern. Definitely a highlight of the Liberty Quarter Eagle offerings in this year's November Baltimore Auction by Bowers and Merena.
