1723/2 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 3.4-Db.1, W-12850. Rarity-3. EF-45 BN (NGC). Handsome autumn-brown surfaces with swirls of crimson patina scattered about. This is a well struck coin for the type, both sides nicely centered on the planchet with universally bold EF detail throughout the design. Light encrustation in the protected areas around the peripheral devices is mentioned solely for accuracy, the in hand appearance smooth and highly appealing. Martin 3.4-Db.1 is the second most common of the four known die marriages of the 1723/2 Wood's Hibernia halfpenny, the present example sure to appeal to collectors seeking an example of this Guide Book-listed overdate.
