Lot Description

1814 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-108a. Rarity-1. E/A in STATES. AU-53 (PCGS). Richly toned in dominant charcoal-gray patina, more vivid cobalt-blue and lighter pale-gold undertones come readily to the fore as the coin dips into a light. Extensive die cracks (as made), clashmarks (also as struck) and evidence of die deterioration at the borders confirm a very late die state, but the central devices remain overall bold in the absence of all but light wear. Smooth-looking surfaces reveal no outwardly noticeable abrasions.
