Description du lot

A handsome example of the largest base metal issue to circulate in British colonial North America. Surfaces on both sides exhibit a mix of olive-brown, flint gray and antique brassy-gold colors that present a pleasing appearance for a Bath metal Rosa Americana. Finely granular in areas, but this is original planchet texture/porosity, and no detracting post-production blemishes are seen. Indeed, this piece shows far fewer surface issues than many Rosa Americana twopences, and the devices are sharp and well formed apart from some minor softness of strike at the central obverse high points. A very nice type coin to showcase the attractive Uncrowned Rose design.
