Lot Description

This is an exceptionally sharp, virtually pristine Superb Gem, the surfaces as lustrous and smooth as on the day of issue. Both sides are dusted with delicate sandy-silver iridescence with a crescent of bold reddish-russet along the upper obverse border. The 1948-D is even rarer than the 1948 in certified MS-67 FBL. Rick Tomaska (2023) observes that all known examples are toned, as here. This half dollar is highly recommended for inclusion in a top-flight Franklin half dollar collection on the PCGS Set Registry.
