Losbeschreibung
Beautiful Mint State Maris 48-g 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 48-g, W-5275. Rarity-1. Outlined Shield. MS-62 BN (PCGS). 160.5 grains. Shimmering, original mint gloss bathes both obverse and reverse of this sharply struck and well made New Jersey copper, with vestiges of mint red color in the most protected areas of the devices and legends. Rich chocolate brown surfaces exhibit some minor planchet striations, chiefly on the reverse and which are easily overlooked in light of this coin's overwhelming visual appeal. Struck from the usually seen clashed state of the obverse die, with clear outline of the shield visible at a tilt and framing the horse's head. Though Maris 48-g is readily available in high grades, most are not as visually appealing as this specimen. Provenance: From our (Bowers & Merena's) sale of the Dr. Stanley Sherr Collection, June 1984, lot 3219; our sale of the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection, March 2017, lot 310. PCGS# 503. NGC ID: 2B4K.
