Description du lot
Really a lovely example, and an exceedingly rare die pairing in this series. Both sides are warmly toned in deep rose-brown, the obverse with an expansive brass splasher that bleeds into the field above and to lower left of the crown. Centering is good with all design elements boldly rendered. A few minor planchet pits in the centers and along the lower obverse border are of no consequence. Late reverse die state with a break engulfing the right half of the snake. The 2018 Martin census records only one example of this variety, the Griffee-LaSarre-Martin specimen in PCGS Good-6 that realized $528 in our April 2023 Collectors Choice Online Auction sale of the Sydney F. Martin Collection. This one brings the census for Marin 2c.1-Ea.8 up to two coins, and it is by far the finer known.
