Lot Description
1879 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. MS-62 (PCGS). A frosty bright example of this scarce date with clean surfaces and rich eye appeal throughout. The strike is sharp on Liberty's curls and the lettering as well as the wreath and denomination. No heavy bagmarks or scrapes are seen, thus the surfaces are attractive. For the year a mere 3,000 were struck thus the dies retained their prooflike fields for the entire press run, as seen on the present coin too. Scarce and desirable at this grade level. PCGS# 8043. Provenance: From the Elmer C. Welden Collection.
