Description du lot
1846-C Liberty Quarter Eagle. AU-58 (NGC). A prized date for the tiny mintage of 4,808 pieces that were struck for the entire year at the Charlotte Mint. Few survive at all, let alone in high grade as seen here. The surfaces show minor signs of handling but retain much of the original luster. Furthermore, the color is pleasing with a strong copper-gold hue typical of this mint. Always seen with heavy die rust at the date and in the reverse fields, and with strong evidence of clashing above the eagle's wings. Condition census quality in the top dozen or so known and a delight for the specialist to pursue.
