1652 Massachusetts Bay Colony Oak Tree Shilling. Noe-7, W-480. Rarity-5. Late Reverse Die State. IN at Bottom. VF-25 (NGC). 67.9 grains. Medium steel gray with some deeper steel and lilac highlights. Soft obverse tree details, delineation lacking in most places though the beaded circle is nearly complete, rim through SETS IN and to the tops of MA, large cud at T at 10 o'clock, no extraneous marks. Reverse details boldly presented and nicely centered, rim barely grazes the tops of NEW EN, all other legends completely on the flan, late die state, heavy cud atop ND A, heavy vertical cud upward from N of AN and spreading out to encompass the second upright of the denomination and the bottom of the 2 in the date. No marks present that need description.
