- BB Die State III. A visual stunner, a coin that really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. Numismatic preferences during the late 19th and early 20th centuries explain why (virtually) all toned Flowing Hair and Draped Bust silver dollars now display secondary color. Even so, we have seen very few that are as vivid and attractive as this 1802 BB-241. Rich mauve-gray patina with steel-olive peripheral halos dominate, although the viewer aided by direct lighting is treated to an intense array of iridescent undertoning in pale gold, powder blue, deep mauve and lavender-blue. The underlying colors have an extraordinary target-like distribution that only adds to the visual appeal. Sharply struck and appreciably lustrous with a smooth and inviting appearance in the absence of significant marks.<p>This die pairing of the 1802-dated silver dollar issue is a perennial favorite among type collectors seeking an example of the Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle design. We caution bidders that attractive, premium Choice AU examples such as this are very scarce in an absolute sense and quite rare compared to the demand for them from quality-conscious collectors. Don't miss this opportunity.
