Lot Description
1786 Connecticut Copper. Miller 5.3-N, W-2575. Rarity-2. Mailed Bust Left, Hercules Head. VG-8 (PCGS). 142.2 grains. Smooth and attractive chocolate brown with even wear and no problems. The late die state of this iconic die variety, with the reverse detail severely limited by clash damage and central sinking, manifesting as swelling on the coin. The obverse is centered to 3 o'clock, weakening CONNEC, while on the reverse INDE competes with clashing that is equal to it in sharpness and depth. Good sound rims, an undamaged and appealing example of this fascinating state. PCGS# 334. Provenance: From the John "Jack" Royse Collection. Purchased from Richard Picker; paper envelope included.
