- Most of the 1838 issues have no drapery below Liberty's left elbow, but this variety shows a partial drapery design the result of die clashing, with the E of DIME clashed at Liberty's elbow. It is the scarcest of the three major designs of the year. This choice original example is well struck and beautifully untoned with frosty luster. PCGS has graded just 5 examples finer!
