Lot Description

115.5 grains. A final Serpent Head from this collection, with appealing medium golden brown surfaces. Not perfectly smooth, with some scattered granularity and a few areas of raised scale, right of the date, at the first U of UNUM, and elsewhere. Well centered and mostly well struck, though the planchet's light weight makes some of the lettering of the legends a bit soft. NOVA is more complete than often seen. A couple of shallow abrasions are present in the fields under the snout, only minor scattered marks otherwise. SHI Die State 3, with the two usually seen cracks on the obverse. This is a desirable piece, a fine way to represent this evocative and enigmatic variety in your cabinet.
