Losbeschreibung: 1878 Morgan Silver Dollar. 7 Tailfeathers. Reverse of 1878. VAM-79. Hot 50 Variety. Fill in 8s. MS-64 (PCGS). This is a scarce VAM variety that shows doubling on the most of the left side obverse stars and some of the stars on the right side; on the word LIBERTY; and on the cotton bolls and leaves. Other diagnostics include: extra metal in the bottom loops of the 8s of the date, Liberty's lower nostril is weak from excess die polish, and the far left three-leaf cluster is separated from the rest of the leaves, also because of excess die polish. This example is well struck and shows extensive, variegated toning in original shades of electric-teal, yellow-gold, crimson, and dove-gray. Carefully preserved and free of any unsightly surface blemishes. PCGS# 133973.
