- 1842 Liberty Quarter Eagle. AU-55 (NGC). Bright yellow gold with lively olive highlights. The devices are frosty and the fields offer a hint of reflectivity. Some scattered marks are obvious to the unaided eye, but the overall in-hand appearance is still substantial. From a modest mintage for the date of just 2,823 pieces. Of the 1842 quarter eagles certified by NGC, the present specimen is among the 10 finest certification events for the date, with only one of those eventsMint State, and that just MS-60.
