Lot Description
1652 Massachusetts Bay Colony Pine Tree Sixpence. Noe-33, W-670. Rarity-3. Pellets at Trunk. AU-50 (PCGS). CAC. 34.32 grains. Struck off center at 12 o'clock on the obverse, as always seen in examples of the Noe-33 variety. (Noe-33a features the same dies, although with the obverse bettered centered in strike.) The reverse is nicely centered, and both sides feature bold to sharp definition for all of those devices that are present on the planchet. Handsome pewter-gray patina, with no significant planchet disturbances, abrasions or other blemishes save for a trace of microgranularity to the texture. Superior technical quality and eye appeal in an example of this otherwise relatively plentiful die marriage among Massachusetts Bay Colony silver coinage.
