1722-H French Colonies Sou, or 9 Deniers. La Rochelle Mint. W-11840. VF-25. 95.8 grains. Beautiful smooth light brown with an extremely high quality planchet. The C of COLONIES is almost entirely off the planchet, reverse aligned to 1 o'clock, some tops of letters interrupted by rim near 12 o'clock. Superb color and eye appeal, an excellent type coin. Craige called this die pair 9-I. A raised artifact, almost like a comma, appears between the last two date digits - perhaps this is a 1722/1 overdate with no overlap between the 2 and 1?
