1871 Round $1. BG-1201. Rarity-6+. Liberty Head. MS-62 (PCGS). Glittering reflective fields form a splendid backdrop to boldly defined, satiny design elements. Handsome green-gold in color with very strong eye appeal for the assigned grade. Crude copies of this variety exist (BG-1329), but only novice collectors would be deceived. Described as a "Broad Head" variety in the Breen-Gillio reference, although in reality this is one of the smallest heads one will find on a gold dollar in this series. This is a premium Mint State example of the rare BG-1201 die pairing, attributed to maker Frontier & Co. Provenance: From the Oregon Collection. PCGS Population: 4; 3 finer (all MS-63). PCGS# 10946.
