- Jonquil Collection. Hodder 2-B, Betts-81, "GOD PRESERVE LONDON", thick planchet. Medium leather-brown graces the entire surface and yields to some pleasing, slightly iridescent reddish-mahogany toning atop the highpoints. A nick beneath the elephant's third leg and diagonal planchet fissure on the reverse provide the only notable incursions. While several curious, thin hairline scratches gather around the animal's shoulder, they appear to be ancient in origin and fully toned into the eye-appeal, which is quite good for such a smooth example. A mysterious and whimsically attractive type that has been nagging at collectors for centuries.
