Deep steel-gray throughout with some retained silver brilliance within Liberty’s drapery folds and shield; the reverse is much the same but with a whisper of bright rose iridescence. One of 450 Proofs of the date produced, a figure that was 550 pieces fewer than the previous year’s tally; no doubt the uncertainty of the Civil War had begun to set in.
