1847-C Liberty Quarter Eagle. Winter Variety 1 (8-F), the only known dies. MS-60 (NGC). A bright yellow-gold coin that retains lustrous fields despite some minor handling marks. Scarce in mint state as the original mintage of 23,226 scarcely left any for collectors today, and perhaps 300-400 pieces exist from this issue, a fraction of those in Mint State. The strike is sharp even on the eagle's thigh, and a trace of die rust is noted below the CA of AMERICA.
