Lot Description
1852-C Gold Dollar. Winter Variety 2 (7-H). MS-62 (NGC). An attractive medium-gold BU, both sides also reveal intermingled olive-gold undertones as the surfaces turn away from direct light. The quality of strike is quite good for the issue, and softness of detail is minor and largely confined to the central reverse and the bottom of Liberty's portrait. The rims are also quite soft, however, especially on the obverse. A minor planchet flaw (as struck) is present in the center of the reverse, and there is a short scrape in the lower-right obverse field, but otherwise we see no singularly mentionable detractions at the BU grade level. A scarce issue with just 9,434 pieces produced, the 1852-C is a rarer Gold Dollar in all grades than the 1851-C.
