Description du lot: Type-1, or the so-called "old reverse", can be identified by noting close proximity of an arrowhead to the "CA" in AMERICA, which are essentially touching, while on the far more common "new reverse", these three elements are notably more separated. At one time, the 1861 Type-1 was considered rare, although it is now known that many exist. The PCGS AU-58 grade calls attention to mere friction on either side, but note that the substantial softness on the reverse is due to a poor strike, and not to circulation.
