- Cherri Strand Collection. Newcomb-3 is easy to attribute once the 1851/81 overdate feature has been noticed, and what makes this a particularly desirable example is the presence of amazingly strong die-polish in the fields -- testament to an extremely early strike. One suspects that the primary grade determinant is the presence of a delicate, singular contact dig in the field in front of the chin, but it represents the only noticeable distraction, such that it is for a brown cent. A very desirable Redbook entry, particularly with such an exceptionally visible die-cutting error.
