1811 Capped Bust Left Half Eagle. BD-1, HBCC-3121, Miller-115. Rarity-3+. Tall 5. AU-53 (NGC). A strong candidate for inclusion in an advanced gold type set, this early Five retains plenty of satiny mint luster despite having acquired light wear. Scattered abrasions are also of limited concern in this regard, and all but a few are so small as to be singularly inconspicuous to the eye. Sharply struck with even medium-gold color, this is an appealing AU representative of the type, issue and individual die pairing. The Tall 5 feature on the reverse readily attributes this coin as BD-1, the (slightly) scarcer of the two-known varieties of the 1811 Half Eagle.
