- Description du lot
- Tompkins Die Stage 1/3, Rea et al. Die State a. If the near-Gem Mint State example from these dies in the previous lot is too rich for one's blood, the NorthEast Collection is also offering this lovely 1828 Browning-1 quarter at the Choice AU grade level. This is a warmly toned piece dressed in blended pewter and steel-olive patina, the later color more extensive on the somewhat darker obverse. Both sides exhibit a generally sharp strike that comes up notably soft only at the end of Liberty's bust on the obverse and in the opposing area on the reverse (read: the scroll near its left end). Softly frosted in finish and impressively smooth for a large Diameter Bust quarter that saw actual, however limited commercial use.
