Lot Description

1776 Machin's Mills Halfpenny. Vlack 6-76A, W-7790. Rarity-4. GEORGIVS III, Group III, Large Date. VF-25 (PCGS). Attractive and lightly glossed across the high points, with a trivial granularity noted in the fields. Ideally centered, if not perfectly, with denticles visible around two-thirds of each side. A shallow clip at 5 o'clock on the obverse trims the tip of the bust and the top of the pole on the reverse. Weak at the centers as usual, but otherwise bold. Toned in dark espresso hues with warmer chocolate-brown atop the devices. A historically dated issue that is perennially popular with American collectors. PCGS# 460.
