- Mintage: 19,303. A reputation for scarcity precedes 1846-D, even though, technically, the base mintage was not terribly low by 1840s standards. The dies were relatively kind to this specimen and brought up very decent, bold relief on either side, complemented by just normal, honest circulation wear. An attractive example that still retains a vestige of luster on the reverse.
