A wholesome, if low grade example of this key date Capped Bust dime issue. Warm pewter and steel-olive patina blankets surfaces that reveal only a few well scattered marks, and then again only under close scrutiny with a loupe. Wear is more extensive in isolated border areas than elsewhere, especially at upper and lower left reverse, but the date is clear and the focal devices are well outlined. In their <em>Bust Dime Variety Identification Guide</em> (2015), Winston Zack, Louis Scuderi and Michael Sherrill account for only 200 to 250 survivors of the 1822-dated dime issue in all grades.
