- 1856 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. MS-63 (NGC). A lovely example for the grade having frosty motifs and satiny fields. The surfaces are essentially brilliant with just a whisper of natural iridescence. Despite a fairly generous mintage of 26,010 pieces, there are probably only a few dozen survivors grading MS-63 or finer, as indicated by the NGC Census data below.
