Lot Description

A tinge of golden iridescence adorns surfaces that present as largely brilliant at most viewing angles. Lustrous and frosty with a sharp strike. The 1858-S tells a familiar story for an early date San Francisco Mint half dollar. The mintage was fairly generous - in this case 476,000 pieces - but most examples were worn out and eventually lost in circulation. The offered coin delivers strong eye appeal at the threshold of Mint State preservation.
