- 1898 Liberty Quarter Eagle. Proof-64 (PCGS). OGH--Second Generation. The lustrous surfaces of this Choice Proof quarter eagle are deep yellow-gold with warm orange highlights. The devices are lightly frosted with the fields nicely reflective and affording a touch of cameo contrast on both sides. One of 165 Proofs of the date struck though somewhat less than that amount can be accounted for today. The strike is needle-sharp, as should be expected, and the eye appeal is easily equal to the grade. If a 19th-century Proof quarter eagle is on your numismatic want list, the present piece may well be the coin for you.
