Gentle russet-gray patina deepens slightly toward the rims, and bold to sharp definition provide a pleasing appearance for this lightly circulated example. These are scarce, most of the 124,500 coins struck were lost through exportation to the Orient, the raison d'etre for the United States trade dollar.
