Lot Description

Heck DS2, Breen Die State I. This is Sheldon's "Closed Wreath" variety, and the Widmer Family specimen is tied for CC#11 in the Noyes census with an EAC grade of EF40 for sharpness, net VF20. It is an appreciably glossy example with rich olive-brown patina to both sides. A spot of slightly darker steel-rose color at the right obverse border before Liberty's eye shows some roughness when viewed under magnification, and there are a few faint scratches on the cheek, but the surfaces are otherwise smooth and essentially problem-free in a lightly circulated Liberty Cap cent. Boldly to sharply defined from a well executed strike, there is much to recommend this handsome piece to discerning early copper enthusiasts and circulated type collectors.
