- Lot Description
- A deeply and pleasingly toned example of this scarce, conditionally challenged Overton number. Rich steely-olive charcoal is dominant, but we also note hints of reddish-russet and cobalt blue. The strike is well centered with all features bold for the grade apart from those in the center of the reverse, where crisscrossing adjustment marks (as made) find greatest expression. There is evidence of an ancient cleaning here, but it hardly detracts, and the surfaces present as smooth in-hand due to a lack of sizeable marks. This is a newcomer to the Condition Census for the 1795 O-108 attribution, and its PCGS grade ranks it as tied for CC#3 based on the list in the Spring 2025 revision to Stephen J. Herrman's AMBPR for Bust half dollars. Tompkins Die Stage 3/3.
