1843-O Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 3-F, FS-501. Large O. VF-30 (PCGS). Silver-gray surfaces with antique-gold and russet at the rims. Evenly circulated but not noticeably marked to the unaided eye. Scarce in most grades despite its mintage of 968,000 pieces -- the need for small change in the New Orleans area never abated owing to the commercial status of this great southern port city, and mintages such as that of the present coin were routinely chewed up by the business needs of the bustling waterfront community.
