- Though nearly 5.3 million examples came off the dies, many bags of 1891-S dollars must have been stored in Treasury vaults and fell victim to the 1918 Pittman Act which called for the mass melting of silver dollars in government holdings. As such, this issue is quite challenging in the MS-66 grade offered here, and rare any finer.
