- This Crosslet 4 variety is far more elusive than its identically dated Plain 4 counterpart, accounting for only one of the nine die marriages confirmed for the 1834 Classic Head half eagle in Daryl J. Haynor's excellent reference United States Classic Gold Coins of 1834-1839 (2020). A separate listing in the Guide Book has increased the variety's recognition and the demand for examples. The offered coin is visually pleasing and desirable at the middle reaches of the numismatic grading scale. Warm honey-gold surfaces are overlaid in iridescent pinkish-rose that appears to drift toward the borders. Sure to catch the eye of advanced early gold variety enthusiasts.
