Lot Description
This is an attractive and pleasing CHOICE Mint State example of this famed, popular, and key variant. Well struck with a rich golden-tan patina over pewter-gray surfaces. The all important missing leg is clear and easily visible to the naked eye. Struck from a very late state of the dies, with much die rust and some clashing. The story of the 3-Legged Buffalo nickel has been told many times over. It is a coin that is well known even to the many outside of numismatics. Well publicized over the years, collectors have kept a keen eye out in circulation. Most known are moderately to well worn, falling in the VF to XF range. Any Mint State example is a prize, and the closer to GEM quality you get, the RARER and more desirable they become. PCGS 211, NGC 223. Non-CAC, NGC-graded examples have sold in the $4,920 to $6,900 range. The current Collectors Universe value is $9,250, and this coin, housed in an older NGC encapsulation, will surely delight any Buffalo nickel collector. Good luck. Cert. Number 1807619006 PCGS # 3982
