Lot Description

Richly toned in steely-copper and olive-brown, although both sides retain appreciable faded mint color in the protected areas around many of the devices, especially on the reverse. The strike is boldly executed, the surfaces with only wispy handling marks and a bit of muting to preclude a higher numeric grade. Scarcer than the 1849 Large Date, the 1850 is one of the most elusive circulation strike Braided Hair half cents in Mint State. This offering from the Widmer Family Collection represents an important bidding opportunity for astute collectors.
